Originally, the third-to-last word in this strip was something much stronger, but at the last minute I decided to change it. Not because I’m worried about pissing anyone off – that would be kind of fun. But I know many genuinely great people who were, at one point or another, fighter pilots’ girlfriends, and I’m not comfortable lumping them into the same group that would rightfully be referred to as the technical term for a female canine. I could have put it in the Member’s Section – true – but my rationale would remain the same, which is why I didn’t.

This character – and he’ll be sticking around for a while – is based on someone who was in both my basic training flight and tech school, right up until about the time I left Tinker for Elmendorf. More on him later.

I recently came across a glitch in our system here that had all email traffic intended for me going to Marco instead. It’s been fixed, but I’ve gotten a few emails lately that were following up with earlier queries. I don’t know when the glitch occurred, but it’s been fixed and I’m once again getting emails from here. If you’ve sent me a specific question any time recently and haven’t heard back yet, try me again.

I had to work Saturday, and as such crammed everything I needed to do this weekend into Sunday. Cops, maintainers and other weekend warriors, I know working a few hours one Saturday doesn’t even come close to what you do, so don’t think I’m complaining – just more or less explaining why there wasn’t a Member’s Section update this week.

I want to take a second and congratulate everyone who was selected yesterday for promotion to E-5. One senior airman I’m particularly proud of is my good friend Carley Bolitho, who has been featured in this comic. Congrats kiddo, and to all your fellow selectees! I had impromptu oral surgery yesterday, and am now in a lot of pain with no real meds to kill it.

This is typically where I’d say I was just going to down some beer and konk out, but the wrong person might read this and I’d end up in ADAPT, so for all you know I’m going to bed stone-cold sober to sleep through the pain.

From what I gather, this is the only time it’s acceptable to wake up groggy in a puddle of your own blood. Paints a pretty picture, doesn’t it?
