Can’t help myself today. The BX is the same as it was 40+ years ago. They have a lot of good stuff but who ever buys their clothes should, at least once every 4 or 5 years, check with the customers and see what they would like, and not the generals favorite few.

I’ve bought some clothes from the BX. Mainly name brand stuff, nothing crappy. But I will say the best shirt I have bought from the BX is my “Mud Wrestling Referee” long sleeve. Defintely gets chuckles in public!

What I really dig is the “Lame” on the front of the “Ed Hardy” shirt.
I have bought and worn items of clothing from the BX. However, it was on Okinawa, so I have an excuse. For those of you not in the know, the Marine Corps’ civilian attire policy on Okinawa was insanely draconian in ’00-’01. I think it’s still largely the same, but back then it was ALL button down and tucked in shirts. Guys would wear polos just so they could leave them un-tucked! Sadly, the BX stuff looked dorky even for that environment. Blech. (Incidentally, I STILL have one of the shirts, although I’ve since “outgrown” it. Apparantly, I was scrawny as a young Lance Corporal…)

As for clothing at the BX, unless you are a size 2 woman, wanting to dress like a,…uh…, her man having been away for a decade…well, enough said.
Shopping at the BX makes me cranky, since I’ve been back in the USA (2005) I think I have been there maybe 15 times tops, and I will never work for AAFES again. It’s been ten years since I quit and I am still traumatized.
I am allergic to Motrin, codiene, and topical antibiotics so I am the military ER Doc’s worst nightmare. The looks on their faces when they realize that they can’t just give me a pill or ointment and get rid of me is almost worth the multi hour wait.
ME TOO ! Except add tetracyclene, sulfas, benedryl, and about 6 other things! I’ve actually been sent home without meds because I was allergic to all that they could “offer me” HUH? WTH?
all the burn creams have sulfa or some other thing I am allergic to, so the ER sent me home with instructions to stop at a drugstore to get aloe for a second degree burn I got last week. They had do call the UNC Burn Center to see what to do with me. Thank God I am not allergic to lidocaine because I got the sticky green gunk for sunburns, oh, and the adhesive on the tape for the bandages. Sometimes that reaction is worse than the original wound.
Sounds like we’re both the people that make the ER staff cringe when we come through the doors. I almost feel sorry for them, almost…

As for Aafes, Some time ago, I bought some nice stuff there. I think it was the Moffett Navy Exchange, not sure if it’s the same merchandise as the BX or not. They had great prices on some nice Dockers, OK shirts, (Hillfiger, etc) and a few other things. The kids selection was always good, and my wife got lots of jeans there too. Sadly, they closed the Moffett NEX a few years ago.
Looking at the BX lately, they do have a lot of those official Air Force shirts with the skulls and the like.
point of information. For years, it has been debated to combine AAFES, NEXCOM, CGES, and MCEX. never has happened, duplication of roles.
The only combined activities are the all services catalog, and the military star credit card, and some sidebar activities.
The last initiative to combine was about 6 years ago, failed due to politics.
My suggestion was for the Joint Exchange Service of the United States.

IF I get the urge to shop at a military market, I CHOOSE to drive the 30 miles west, instead of east, and hit the NEX at Pensacola. And NO, it’s NOT the same stuff as the AAFES. And the selection? WOW.
It was good even before the renovations they did years ago. We stop in whenever we’re visiting family in P’cola, it’s small but it’s got better merchandise and more sizes than the biggest BX’s I’ve been in

The only good clothes that AAFES sells — if you can even say that AAFES sells good clothes — are far too overpriced. Overall, AAFES clothes are cheaply made, awkwardly stitched together, and don’t quite fit right. And I don’t fucking need a pocket on every god-damned shirt! I normally shop at Kohls because the clothes there are nicer and almost always on sale. A few months ago, I bought $490 worth of clothes for only $160 there.
Which AAFES store do you shop at?? I am always looking for polos with pockets, and I can’t ever find any (with occasional rare exceptions)!

I discovered in Germany that the best clothing purchase at the PX was Levi’s – for the local females of my acquaintance. Buying something for $30 or less as a gift that would have cost them easily twice as much due to import tariffs was an easy way to earn their appreciation.
Kickass was definitly a “guys” movie. For those of you who haven’t seen it, to me it was a cross between Napoleon Dynamite, Kill Bill, and Scary Movie. The little girl was the only redeeming quality IMHO.
Agree with AAFES. On the womens side, you have teeny bopper or old lady. Nothing worth crap for us adults in between the too.

Try finding size 5 shoes at the BX that don’t have six inch heels or goofy looking bows and do dads. I’ve had to resort to girls athletic shoes on more than one occasion
I’m definitely feelin it with the AFFES clothes and since i’m at RAF Moldenhell i’ll have to wear whatever clothes i had from the state seeing as clothes off base cost the same number time 2-3 in GBP.
everytime my wife and i walk into to the BX we look at the womens clothes and say yeah i could see my grandma wearing that. little bit further into te juniors clothes and we say why would anyone let their daughter wear that. then their is the maternity wear which sucks. baby clothes is about the only place you’ll find something cute for the kid. i don’t even venture into the mens clothes because i can’t afford the polos and the ed hardy is hideous and i would rather see myself burned than wearing it plus on top of that i just don’t understand why someone would wear it. i’ve found a few pairs of jeans but those were on sale for 75% off.
HEY AFFES! if you have to have things at 75% off once a month to get people to even consider buying it then why did you offer it in the first place.
about the only i buy there right now is WII games because british WII games don’t work on american systems, and charcoal for my bbq
when I worked at the PO in Ramstein, it was always full of JCPenney and Old Navy boxes and bags. Sometimes it seemed that half our daily truck was from clothing and shoe stores.
