Beer Thirty has actually become a sacred tradition in my office – so much so that when one of us has the day off on Friday (like me today,) we still go up to the base to hang out and unwind. Part of that could be that the closest building to ours, other than the base movie theater, is the club. Also, amazingly, the club at RAF Mildenhall is actually pretty awesome. Well, the Sports Bar is awesome. The actual “Enlisted Club” can get a little weird at times, especially on R&B night, but I really hardly ever go there. By hardly I mean never.
Except that one time…

friday here in las vegas drag on for forever LOL keep ‘em coming farva
i got the first comment hell yea!!!
Beer thirty used to come at reveille. Nothing like brushing your teeth and rinsing with warm, flat beer.
so that one time was really that bad wasn’t it. i’ve never gone upstairs in the G-club except to get tables my unit rented don’t plan on it either. the bar is cool though but i hate how the roadhouse closes at 14:00 so the only choice of food with beer is pizza
Been awhile since I stopped through there but the English Pub right off base I remember being pretty good too. Good breakfasts too. Which reminds me I need to try and actually get over there to visit you and Katie before you end up PCSing elsewhere.
I I love my bank – they move payday one day early.
Since I’m in Arizona now, I miss the Minot AFB JR Rockers – I love the pasta dishes for dinner.
whoa hold the phone! did i just hear someone say they missed MINOT!
I just finished a tour in Minot and its not that bad. Its actually quite nice except for the winters – they are brutual and long, but there is a lot to do there….unless you enjoy the night life…in which case everything shuts down at 1 am.
And the fact that the winters are from August til June
All kidding aside, I liked it there just fine. But I am pretty content whereever. We were stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana when I was a kid. Water moccassins in your backyard, everything is uphill from there!
The club had a darn good pasta buffet for lunch in 2002, if I remember correctly.
And I might not, I spent a couple too many Friday’s at the club for Beer-thirty.
it’s kinda funny to hear someone say they drank on base here at Minot. The only bases I enjoyed drinking at, were Maxwell-Gunter and Vandenberg.
At least drinking in Minot kept you warm
And I enjoyed imbibing at both of those as well, a bit more than Minot I will admit. Although my second round of Maxwell was a small case of the Murtaugh list (I’m too old for this…)
I just found out there is a Air Force Food transformation plan, they have already picked 6 CONUS AFBs, they plan to outsource (IE fire the federal workers) and use contractors in the clubs, if they even call them clubs anymore. The AAFES O’club was closed by AF Services after being there 30+ years, and is now ran as an AAFES activity. (I don’t see AAFES getting in the club business in the field.)
IMHO.
FIRST!!!
Wow…I think I completely mistimed that one.
looks like the wormhole has reopened. Your first post wasnt there a while ago, only the mistimed this one post.
It was held for moderation. I put an automatic hold on any post that says “first’ so we don’t get into that whole thing again.
Ok, I must admit this one wasn’t as much “mistimed” as it was planted perfectly. I love baiting…is it wrong for me to bait? I shall go hang my head in shame…AGAIN!
Keep at it, some day you’ll become a Master…
It’s been a few years since I was TDY to Lakenheath. But, if you are missing IHOP and traditional American breakfasts, check out the hotel next to Mildenhire Car Rental on “The St” right off Mildenhall. Sorry I can’t remember the name but there is a big sign on the side of the building advertising a “Massive” or “Huge” Breakfast for £5 or so.
If anyone happens to know the name of the hotel, please post here.
The Bird In Hand
Ahhh the Bird in Hand, I remember it well in 1976. Or at least untill the third round hit, then….not so much. But I was told I had a good time.
Nope, not the Bird in Hand. I’ve been there, great food. Plus, being new to the area all the different beers on tap were a real novelty.
This place was a hotel, down stairs they had the check in desk straight in front of you, the stairs off the the left and a dining area to the right along the front windows.
I had a short stop in Mildenhall last year, a group of us went to that sports bar to watch the Bills unfortunately get stomped by the patriots. Still a good time though.
wait! isnt it ALWAYS beer thirty somewhere, or past 1700, or sun past the yardham, any excuse will do?
IDK about beer:30 but its ALWAYS 5 o’clock SOMEWHERE!
Are you asking or telling us Robert?
could be both! what time is beer-30 for 2nd, swing, and 3rd shifts?
Back in the day, Friday afternoon’s were keeping 2 tech for flight line emergency coverage and the rest of the Flight Surgeon’s office sitting in one of the Doc’s office drinking beer and smoking. Yeah, way back in the day
Reminds me of working panama schedule in Korea. Nothing like sitting out on the strip at 1000 enjoying some bulgogi and an OB or 4!
Worked MidShift at Bitburg back in 1982 – 1985, use to get off at 08:00 and hit the German Canteena next door for a beer and brochen with scrambled egg, bacon, and cheese. Followed by a shot of shnappes.
I was at Spangdahlm 80-84. Loved the German Canteena
Ahhh breakfast at Schwings…. didn’t get much better at UPT.
Ahh, the good old days….I was there when the Galaxy Club was still called the “G” Spot and it meant something, back before they fenced in the Admin side of RAFM. Girls, I mean visitors from as far as Canterbury, Cambridge, and Norwich used to show up regularly, some by bus. It wasn’t as swank and fancy as the new club, but it had a ton of charm!! Is the B-ball half court still in use in the Sports Bar?
Your Comment is Awaiting Moderation???? That’s new.
i think they turned that into a video game arcade with video games that don’t work so basically its just a dark hole that no-one even dares to go to for fear of being swallowed by a black hole
The G died long before they fenced it in. It and the other clubs at the Moldy/Lake complex died when they activated the crusade against smoking and banned it indoors. Now I am not a smoker but it does draw in the local ladies over there. The yearly air show was the best. the club was packed with wall to wall mother/daughter teams. Ahhhhh what a sight to see. I actually met the first ex Mrs “VD” at the air show party.
VD
i think moldy/lake died with that too because there is very little good morale here any more and it seems like high school all over again with stupid drama and back stabbing and people hating people and wow i just can’t wait till my tour is up in a year and a half.
hey farva why dont you try the bird in hand i pretty much live there and im friends with all of the staff and locals there, also fridays are great there because of karaoke night its great to watch drunk people try to sing. Im going tonight!!
Watching them try to sing is great and all… it’s the listening that I find painful
Not if your drunk too
You mean like that one time at the Bar, Farva, that you tried to get me to call my future father in law at 2 in the morning to tell him his daughter was alright and safe. THEN tried to tell the other cops to take my keys, when I lived in the dorms and was walking home any way? that was a really fun night you sir were what we in the business call….. SMASHED!!!!
At least he was being a good wingman, trying to ensure you didn’t drink and drive, regardless of what the situation was at the time
Wow, way to single out us deployed types and make our 12 hour days even longer…
Where I currently work we have a beer light (actual neon Peroni beer sign hanging on the wall) that comes on around 1530 every Friday. Reminds me of back in the day at the squadron bar. Life is Good!
LOL… All I’m saying is that Shaw does have a pretty nice golf course! Thats all im sayin!
If only I could remember all of my “One time at the G-Club” stories. Who in their right mind puts a dorm right across the street from the club!?
HAHA. I just finally got the correlation between Barbie’s nickname for Dhart and her previous airframe (F-16)…I’m slow…
Haha don’t worry I didn’t know what fornicate was…
Today is pretty much a writeoff for me, PT Test in the morning, BBQ at lunch, SMSgt going away after that, then beer light will be on.
Haha, Barbie is such a jerkface sometimes
If you enjoy beer-thirty, never get stuck in a space job! At Vandy, there is absolutely no such thing and that’s a shame, because it ruins the new Airmen by not letting them see the real side of the AF!
too bad for you guys that like the C-17. the Boeing union is trying to kill it:

When I was at Incirlik, beer:30 was every Friday at 1100. The designated grillmaster would fire up the grill, everyone else would go home, change into civvies, stop by the shopette, then come back at 1200. Crank up the tunes in the Litterbox, take the phones off the hook, and enjoy the evening with friends and family!
Wish it was still like that, although I can’t complain. It’s just changed a lot since 98! We’re in DIGITCON now, no drinking in public after 2230. Club closes early and base curfew is 2300. Booo!
hmmm. Farva said “ecedrin 15 and puke o’clock the next morning”
am I the 1st to catch this?
