The first time I heard about halibut tacos, I thought the idea was disgusting. Then I tried them, and now wish I hadn’t because I know what I’m missing.
If you’re stationed at Elmendorf or are lucky enough to go TDY there, I highly recommend Humpy’s on 6th Ave. Have a glass of Alaskan Amber for me while you’re at it.
There’s a new strip in the Member’s Section, and for the record, I did warn you that the comics in there would be a little, um, uncouth…
-Farva

Don’t know if I could eat them myself. Nice to know you like’em though.
Shrimp and or Mahi (so tuna speak) aren’t bad, though not native chop.
Hell, I’d probably give it a shot. Now, to find myself in a place that serves them…
Change the starch and you’re dealing with a Po’ Boy sandwich and I think I remember Hooters offering a Mahi sandwich
Good one in Member’s Section!
… This taunts me to set aside money for a Membership… HMMM. I see what you did there… |D
any particular reason why the ‘puter in the background is BSOD’d?
Darn it, you beat me to it on the BSOD comment.
Because it’s an Air Force computer.
Farva what are you talking about these new computers with vista are amazi……..wait no i cant back that up..
Me: BSOD says there’s a timeout error between two of the CPU’s. That means I need a new computer.
IT Central: Run this software; that should fix it.
Me: BSOD says there’s a timeout error between two of the CPU’s. That means I need a new computer.
IT Central: We’ll send somebody over to take a look at it.
IT Guy (at my desk): Looks like there’s a timeout error between two of the CPU’s. That means you need a new computer.
Hmmm, taco’s
The Halibut Tacos at La Cabana on 4th and Cordova are to die for. And the Halibut fajitas.
Down the road here. Grouper Rubens. Blech.
Mmm. Mahi (dolphin) tacos from anywhere along the Atlantic Coast of Florida are some of the best things I’ve ever tasted. Knowing that deliciousness makes me more willing to indulge in other types of fish tacos (just for the halibut…never gets old!).
Mahi isn’t dolphin and dolphins aren’t fish. A common misconception.
However, mahi-mahi is a fish known as dolphin. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahi-mahi)
Why am I fighting a digression about mountain oysters?
Mahi-mahi is usually shortened to mahi and usually called dolphin. I’m aware that it’s not an actual dolphin. I know that dolphins are mammals. Thanks for the official evidence, Farva!
MMMMMMMMM Flipper!
Fish tacos? You sure this shouldnt be in the member’s only section =)
I was wondering who’d be the first to go there, LOL. That’s why I was careful to say halibut tacos…
Yeah, I think it’s a little more than coincidence that I got assigned to a unit whose mascot is the “Vulgar Vulture”!
Pretty sure that’s why I was assigned to the 740th… Back a few years ago now, but still got the dirty mind.
my mouth is salivating
Humpy’s also has the 7lb seafood dinner challenge that was on man vs food i think… Im gonna have to check it out this weekend
Humpy’s is pretty damned good. I’d recommend it.
Not to mention they can do an Irish Car Bomb -correctly- unlike some other places in town. *grumble grumble*
SSgt? Since when?
I was just at Elmendorf about a week ago. C-5 Broke there (imagine that) and we went to Humpy’s. Had some Alaskan Amber and some salmon and king crab. It was amazing.
… Fish tacos are fantastic. It’s a shame that Barbie doesn’t seem to think so.
*sigh* So what do I have to do to get an assignment to Alaska?
Seriously, I have requested Alaska, Germany, and Korea as often as I had the opportunity to request anything and been turned down everytime… So where (you ask) did the Army send you Muddy? …Frickin Pennsylvania.
No bashing on PA please. I’m stuck in Oklahoma, I’d kill to get back home to the east coast.
It could be worse. You could be in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
You can get Alaskan Amber at a lot of places in the northwest nowadays. It’s good stuff! Never did get a taste for halibut while I was there. Guess it grows on if you live there!
They had it on tap at Guardian Challenge at Peterson AFB last week. Tasty.
so yeah we had a computer go BSOD on us about three months ago….we got it back yesterday. gotta love the expediant ways of computer people in the AF!!!
I gotta remember not to have soda in my mouth when I read your stuff. LOL
My BSOD memory comes from when I was deployed to Incirlik in 2002 for ONW to work as the PERSCO systems operator. The classified hard drives for the program were supplied directly from AFPC. This particular hard drive had probably been their working every single day for the last 10 years. It held all of the manning and manpower data for all 2500 personnel deployed, plus info on the next AEF inbound rotation. There was a disc backup, but no hard drive duplicate. This thing BSOD’d about four times a day. When we asked AFPC for a replacement, their response was “it has to completely crash first before we can replace.” Potentially months of work lost and god only knows how many potential weeks of 24 hour days to recreate the data? Ya, we started backing up every hour.
This looks like the “So Tuna Speak”…
Ahhhh the BSOD, went through two or three that suffered The Blue Screen of Dell once upon a time long ago each coming “new” STS and out of the box… STS
I fucking love Humpy’s. I celebrated my 21st birthday there and had the blackened halibut. It was AWESOME!
HAHA my Doc just got the BSOD on her computer, she wasnt to happy at all but i did the right thing took a pic and uploaded to facebook.
