A Canadian soldier wrote a great poem for this in 1915. No matter what country you serve, you can relate:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
He scarce had need to doff his pride or slough the dross of Earth — E’en as he trod that day to God so walked he from his birth, In simpleness and gentleness and honor and clean mirth.
So cup to lip in fellowship they gave him welcome high And made place at the banquet board — the Strong Men ranged thereby, Who had done his work and held his peace and had no fear to die.
Where do you come up with the ideas for these? I love the Memorial Day comics you put up! Always something to look forward to that really capture the moment and spirit.

They fell, but o’er their glorious grave
Floats free the banner of the cause they died to save.

Well said Farva
Never Forget.
Bravo, Farva. Bravo
Thank you, Farva. There is no one better at capturing the thought in our hearts.
That was an excellent and tasteful way of expressing what’s in all our hearts. //Steve//
To those who served The Flag, died for The Flag, and were buried beneath The Flag, I salute you.
Well said Farva.
