I won’t say this is from my own experience, because that would be self-incriminating. But, you’ll notice I didn’t give anyone else credit for the idea…
There will be some exercise-related comics posted randomly to the Member’s Section throughout this week. I’ll tweet it when they’re posted. There’s one new one in there now.

Hmm whats this?
First
Hopefully the BX has everything Coffman needs!
(IMHO)
You didn’t read the rollover text…
sure didnt!
ROFL!!
Funny roll text, but as you should remember the Wally world in Del Rio, is a mash of jumbled items occupying space for other items, “restocked” items by customers in aisles having nothing to do with product, and of course massive pandemonium anywhere near the toy section. I try and not go there ever and when I do I hope it is a “slow time” but have never been that lucky
VD
Yeah, but the shelves were too full for it to be AAFES, and the Wal-Marts in Alaska were pretty good, believe it or not.
We would always stock up at SAMS Club when we’d spend several weeks in Anchorage. Shelves were always stocked up there.
You can always tell when a deployment exercise is coming because the BX runs out of shampoo, deoderant, soap, etc. Course here at Kunsan, being “forward deployed” already technically, never have that problem. Instead the commissary runs out of microwave food, lunchables, etc right before an ORE
Got to spend a couple months TDY in Kunsan back in 06. Lodging was crap but the rest of the trip was quite a bit of fun. Looked like new billeting was being built when we came, so my unit got the tool sheds at the top of the hill there.
I just did five months there the end of last year and we stayed in the hooches too. Billetting still wasn’t open. lol Walking through the snow across the top of that hill to the bathroom was pretty sweet though.
The new lodging is now open but the people that “deploy” here still stay on Wolf Pack Hill in the shacks. The new billeting are for visiting big wigs or PCSers (in or out).
mmm…
I see…
Perk
No woman no cry…
Tar Shampoo
Cranium & shoulders
Doosh (never run out of those)
Sport ???? for guys
????
Fructose syrup
??? Blue O (thought it said “Big O” the first time i read it – my pure mind!
and Fouran 69…
Get any wrong? Can you fill in the blanks?
Let’s see…
Perch
It actually is “Big O”
and Formula 69.
All others are right. Nice eyes.
The problem I always have it it always seems right before an exercise kicks off, someone from LRS or up the chain decides to change he damn requirements in the mobility bag so even if you were perfect before, you aren’t now.
In 8 years, I’ve never deployed. I had a stocked mobag for three years and never used any of it, even for exercises. Robbed the tioletries (sp?) for use at the house and donated the uniforms to the kids and Airman’s Attic. I know, I know, supposed to have one, yada, yada. My current job will keep me non-deployed for at least another four years, so why bother?
Never did this myself, but used to hear stories about a guy who would stuff his mo-bag with pillows, blankets, dirty laundry, etc to give the impression of a full personal bag and then he actually got “deployed” (flown to another base) for a few days on a training exercise. Guess that’s why we had so many bag inspections.
That story reminded me of one my Dad told when he was drafted into the Army for Korea. His squad was ordered out for 15 mile hike with “full packs”. Dad took that as “full” but not necessarily full of Army gear. He loaded his down with toilet paper and off he went. He got busted when he didn’t look tired enough and wan’t whining or complaining at the end. Month of KP for that stunt!
In 20+ years, I’ve never kept a ready mo-bag. Sure, I knew where MOST of my uniforms and clothes were, but keeping a stock of the recommended toiletries? A) They always changed the rules EVERY exercise, and B) It’s recommended, but EET and supervision always take it as gospel and say YOU WILL have everything.
1 year, 1 month, 23 days…………….
to get off subject, today was blues monday… for the ARMY! (at S.H.I.T.)
Seems funny seeing them in white shirt, all rank and ribbons, blue pants with bright yellow stripes, (reflective?), but thats where they are going.
Wait, WHAT? blues monday for the Army? Monday is motorpool/maintenance day, who the frack made monday a dress uniform day?
Oh, and the “Army Service Uniform looks like crap when you take the jacket off…. Mall Cop anyone?
23+ years here’s what I learned about execises:
Simply save the empites from your bathroom: shaving cream, toothpaste tube and box, deodorant. Clean them up so they look new, and keep the caps from the shaving cream. Then stuff your mobag with these little babies. It’ll save on weight and it looks like you’ve actually got your shit together.
This one is going up on the wall at work! I am in a contingency response unit that deploys frequently with little or no notice and it seems like none of us keep toiletries in our bags. Every time there is a bag drag or deployment you’ll find nearly everyone headed out at the bx trying to grab what they need at the last second.
between you, loadtoad, and coffman.. hmm.. BX has pre-loaded mo-bags, available on aisle 6, first 20 customers only, all others hoof it to wallymart
IMHO
I think everyone’s done that.
Also: WTF, how long have we had mouseover text? *Sigh* to the archives…
I have a better idea. I actually bought enough uniforms and supplies to keep a bag packed and ready. As I wore something out, I’d buy a new one for the bag and pull one out to wear. Our requirements didn’t change. As far as I know, the personal bag requirements are the same now as 25 years ago.
Exercise mornings (usually not announced in the Dark Ages of the 80s), everyone would be trying to trade T shirts and sniff their laundry piles for enough stuff. My roommate and I would stroll in and get a nap before the D-bags arrived.
Every exercise was the same: What can we do to make recalls go faster? Every time, I gave the same answers: Art 15 the Dbags who refuse to show up for 4 hours, and let us band our bags so we don’t have to inspect every bag every time.
Every exercise, we were told the same thing: We couldn’t Art 15 airmen just for failing to follow orders (um…why not?) and they were “Working on” being able to band bags. They were “Working on it” for 4 years.
It’s good to see there are still some Dbags upholding the slacker tradition the USAF is stereotyped with among other other branches.
I have a suggestion on how to make bag drags easier: Read my first paragraph above.
There. Isn’t that better than being a Dbag?
For the few years that I had a mobag, thats pretty much what I did, only opposite. The old uniforms went into the mobag. Still serviceable, just old. T-shirts, socks, and boxers were still in the packaging.
And I agree on the Art-15 thing. I was usually about 4th or 5th to check in out of 130 personel, if I wasnt already at work (I always come in early for work and recalls never started before 0600). Always irked me to see shaved faces and ironed uniforms, and the occasional McD’s bag of goodies or dounut box.
Like you, I also kept a full mo-bag up until retirement 5 yrs ago. The only requirement that really changed during that time was the uniform itself. First there were the fatigues, then the BDU (with its different variations w/ aircrew patches, then name tapes w/o and w/ organizational patches) and fortunately I retired as the ABU was coming into wear. Remember, many guys (and gals) see the uniform allowance as a “bonus”, and therefore spend it on anything else- then complain when they finally do need to buy uniforms.
Your suggestions about banding mo-bags and handing out Art 15′s sounds strangely familiar. Were you ever w/ the 836 or 355 at D-M?
I was not. It’s fairly logical, though. I couldn’t be the only one to think of it.
Hmm. I was a 54XXX as well. It must be a CE thing.
It is so funny you are on an ORE kick. We just finished one out at my guard unit last Sunday. That was a fun 6 days.
I dont know about anyone else, but everything in my bag was for looks/inspection only. I bought everything from the dollar store(not like I was ever gonna use it ). I didnt spend more than $20 and it’s was worth every cent (that shit is still there, 10-14 yrs later)!
Grin – been retired for seven years now. I have to laugh, because I STILL have a bag packed with underwear, toiletries, etc. I can go on a business trip with about half an hour’s notice, which totally freaks out my co-workers, who have to start packing for a trip a week ahead of time, and STILL forget stuff.I have the same plan as Azol – when I wear out socks or underwear, it comes out of the bag. What I buy new, spends a year or so in the bag first.
I have never been in a squadron that required a mobility bag. So this is all pretty weird to me. 7 years working for ISR will do that to you.
Hey, off topic completely, but I was searching for the pinup that Farva did with Willows and a reflective belt….I can’t find it after combing through the archives. Where’d it go Farva?!
Had it as a bg on my home pc, but lost it somehow.
Grr, think I figured out why I can’t find it in the archives > because it was posted in the rollover text as a link. Farva/Marco, halp!
I have it save on my computer if you want it
If you click my name it should link to my fb profile, send me a message with your e-mail and i’ll send it to you.
Thank you Amy, you’re awesome!
maybe it will show up in the members section.
I am learning not to like OREs. That is all I will say.
You’re learni…wait, you liked them to begin with?! 0.o
Damn, I’m not the only person that noticed the “Doosh”…LOL!
Voluntold is more like it….. LOL
yaaaaaay! LRS made it into AF Blues!
