I used to collect the autographs of celebrities and interesting people I met through my job, but somewhere along the line I just stopped. Same with having my picture taken with folks (except Neil Armstrong.) Now the stuff I collect and hold dear are things only people in certain circles would consider valuable, like my signed Crew Dogs comics and the fan art some of y’all have put on the AFBlues Facebook page. Some of those are framed and hanging on my wall, while my Roger Clemens signed baseball and other memorabilia from famous folks are stored safely away where only Kaitie and I see them with any regularity.

I just hope that Leia is taking notes… of both briefings.
Stand up and go to the back of the room.
My husband works at Rampart Lodge on the AF Academy and he has met Capt Sullenburger (sp?) and Sinbad, but he’s not allowed to ask for autographs. He also told me that John Glenn had a reservation there, but he wasn’t working when he checked in. The closest to a celebrity I met was the Army bus driver from Forrest Gump…met him in Beaufort, SC.
Speakin of famous people, ran into Billy Bob Thornton at Black Wolf tattoo parlor across the street from Cheetahs over the weekend. My fiance’ was gettin a heart w/wings on her lower back and he was in there with who we THINK is his kid, who was gettin 2 dragons in fire on his right shoulder. We were there for about 5 hrs and he was in and out alot chattin and checkin up on his kids art. Pretty cool guy, even congratulated us on our way out.
Nice dream wipe.
FIRST things first…Dahl needs his big JP mug of coffee.
OSHKOSH 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you at Oshkosh? I wanted to go, but just could not make it happen this year. For now, I am living it vicariously through my friends.
Not a DICKI malfunction in progress, we hope… though the bit of drool is on the mark
Once, at Osh Kosh, I met an aviation legend. We’ll call him “C. Yeager.” Wait, that’s too obvious, let’s call him “Chuck Y.” Anyway, a female friend and I (both between 13-16 years old) flew with him through the Young Eagles program, then got our photo with him (I also got his biography signed). My friend afterward told me that he more-than-grazed her right bewbie while standing between us posing for the photo.
I would have thought that Barbies involvement with the destruction UAVs would be classified. Maybe that DICKI did kick in to keep him from commenting.
It probably is. Think dream sequence….
Sorry to put my being French on the table, about the French word ‘grandeur’ in the headline, is it a typing mistake or did I miss a pun?
Please help
No pun missed. ‘Grandeur’ is just one of the many words appropriated from another language and now used as regular English. I believe the meanings stays the same in either language (figuratively, ‘greatness’ or ‘magnificence’).
I know how Barbie feels, I’m going to need about 3 more cups of coffee to make it through staff meeting today…
I have my signed Crew Dogs print on my wall also. It holds a place of honor right next to a Blood Chit signed by Tex Hill.
I still hate that “Beetle” was forced to take Crew Dogs down. Maybe he could take all of the old Crew Dogs stuff and put out a book or something.
Not trying to take anything away from the AF Blues site but just mourning the demise of Calvin and his squadron mates.
Why was he forced to take it down Mike?
While it wasnt discussed in great detail, it was mentioned some time ago. To sum it up, an Officer in the AF shouldn’t say certain things, even if it is in comic form. We’ll leave it at that………………
Love that little bit of drool.
Through my career I’ve had the opportunity to meet and get autographs from several famous pilots (at least to historians). I’ve met Robert L Scott jr., Robin Olds, Steve Ritchie, Chuck DeBellevu, Adolf Galland, and a bunch of slightly less famous aces mainly from the 4th and 56th Fighter Groups and the Flying Tigers. Most of my signatures are in books by or about the pilots involved.
I thought taking down the UAV was part of a super-seekrit skunk works operation. How come Leia gets to know about it?
The only thing that could have made this strip funnier; zoom out a bit on the last pane and show Dahl with a “happy” flight suit. Might not have been appropriate for the general public, but it would have been hilarious!
Just wondering why the 2nd pane is blurry? Is it because its a dream? But then why isnt the 1st one?
I think the first panel is the actual briefing, the second is Barbie’s dream extrapolation of it…
Ahhhh… good call
That does make sense, missed that the first time.
So I really haven’t met that many celebs…Although I did meet Frank Herbert’s son at McGuire (sp?) last Aug while dmobing from the IZ…don’t really think he counts as a celeb…and I was on a plane from Manchester, NH to Pittsburgh with Triple H and China one time (WWF wrestlers back in the day)…other than that…I got to see Everlast in Iraq…which was pretty cool….rambling now… long day…signing off
haven’t seen any celebs as a military troop, but before i joined up, i worked for a sheriff’s office and had the pleasure of seeing the infamous Tonya Harding booked into the jail back in 2000 after she hucked a hub-cap at her boyfriend
