Today all my coworkers had their brand new copies of Modern Warfare: Black Ops. Some had went at midnight to get it, and some had stopped on the way in to work to make sure they didn’t miss out. Then, when I went to the BX at around 8:30 this evening, they were still there in abundance. And now, hundreds of people who pre-ordered theirs on Amazon because they had no faith in AAFES are going to just have to wait until they arrive to join the fray.
That, or they’ll just buy another copy, and when the Amazon copy arrives, they’ll take the unopened one back to AAFES and get a refund. Sneaky sneaky.
I, on the other hand, didn’t get a copy. Considering I’ve had Modern Warfare 2 for a year now and am only a level 19, I think it’s safe to say I won’t lose any sleep over not having a copy right away. The funny thing is that I know quite a few people who will lose sleep because they have a copy.
For you civilians out there, the Star Card is AAFES’s exclusive credit card.

Dear God, all I want next year is Modern Warfare: Space Ops. Senic venues of Front Range Colorado, Minot and FE Warren (to name a few) as you sit in a hole, drink mountain dew for 3 day shifts and beat off to freeze frame beaver shots from the CGI enhanced Star Wars movies.
I remember those days in Germany. I always ordered my games through ebgames.com.
Wow, I haven’t thought of Electronics Boutique in a long time. Gamestop bought them out, didn’t they?
Yep…same company…different name…I haven’t seen any in a long time.
Funny..I’ve never seen any ‘hot’ cashiers at AAFES. They must be like baby pidgeons…never seen one, but they must exist somewhere.
Most of the ones I see are Asian ladies (seriously!!!!).
Not sure if anyone remembers the old Awacker toon, but Farva has mentioned that one before…”Asian American Female Employment Service”….
AAFES – Asain American Female Employment Service. My old Boss told me that one.
I’ve seen quite a few, actually. There was a really cute one at the Troop Store in Monterey for a time, there’s another cute one at the McConnell BX, and occasionally you’ll see one or two working the shopette there.
The cashiers at Kunsan are all Asian, though not Asian American. Does that make it Actually Asian Female Employment Service then?
I picked up MW2 when I found out everyone in my office was playing. As soon as I bought it they all started playing another game and I didn’t feel like putting up with the whiny teenagers.
PS3…don’t get the XBOX 360. More whine-o’s on 360.
Hey, I resent that. There may be whine-o’s on there, but there’s mostly people who think they’re the best player in there and just can’t stand being killed. F-this and F-that, it get’s old really quick.
I picked it up. Of course they only had the regular and Prestige versions. I mainly wanted the Hardened to get the Zombie maps, and the metal case. I ended up buying the Prestige. I think I got someones copy because they had 2 360 and 2 PS3 copies, and the guy was like “WE got one more? The other two are reserved.” He then handed me a PS3 copy, and when I asked for an Xbox copy he handed it over and asked the difference…
Just picked mine up after work today. Now i just have to figure out how to set up an xbox at work without anyone noticing. Maybe tell em it’s a new CBT?
In my old squadron, one of the Lieutenants said that if I could write up a memo with a reasonable sounding justification (“Team Building Exercises” for instance), I could probably get XBoxes set up in our Unit Control Center without any problem. Getting the Air Force to BUY the XBoxes would be another issue though.
When I was the UDM, I had one setup for “morale” purposes. During exercises, we’d have entire shifts where we’d be bored waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop. Or we’d have a few guys waiting for thier chalk to get called so we’d house them in our office. Gotta stay busy somehow
This is all semantics, and I realize this isn’t supposed to be an exact representation of the real world… but the standard starting amount for a STAR card is $2500 (with an additional $500 for clothing sales.) I hope he’s got a LOT of extra cash/credit beyond the STAR card
100 (copies) x 3 (PS3/360/PC) x $60* = $18k
100 (copies) x 1 (DS) x $30* = $3k
100 (copies) x 1 (Wii) x $50* = $5k
Total: $26k Guess he should make sure his ebay/craigslist account is up to date to try and recoup his losses…
*These are based on prices @walmart.com
@Farva: I don’t get to nitpick much since I’m not a SME in most fields, but with all the comics you do, one was bound to hit something I knew about XD
Oh, hey lookie, my avatar updated!
Ah, but remember – you get 10% off your first day’s purchase, so in actuality he’s only going to have to pay $23,400.
I got to nitpick a nitpicker! My day is complete!
So were Leia’s tips part of what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?
Just askin’
Feel free to nitpick me whenever, I know I’m not perfect, and accept it, just like to poke a bit of fun when I get the chance
STS >.> <.<
Really need an edit comment button… but that 10% would only apply to what he actually charges to the card… which would put him at $25750
$60 for the PC version?! I looked it up to make sure that was right before replying. Most games are cheaper on the PC.
sigh.. it is the MilStar (TM) card as long as we are pointing out boo-boos. (IMHO)
Somehow I think Farva has now made Amy a character in this strip, and I approve!! (Awaiting my next guest spot)
And to chastise the mouseover.. AAFES is dead. Long live the eXchange! (IMHO again)
And yet, out of ALL the nit-pickiness, no one has pointed out Barbie’s typo yet. *tsk tsk*
No, they have. Many, many times. And like always, once I fix it, I delete them. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to delete the cached strip from the server so the fixed one is all that shows.
Lmao nice. I wasn’t going to say anything but after Charlie’s ridiculous post, and then RobertM’s contribution, I couldn’t help.
I first saw this at work, but I’m seeing from home that it has been corrected.
You know what I find interesting? Anytime someone here creates a new account, their first post has to be approved so I know they’re not a spambot or something. You’d be amazed how many new accounts I woke up to with a first post pointing out – some rather condescendingly – that one small error. These are folks who went through the entire process of creating an account just so they could publicly berate me when sending a courteous, discreet email would have done the job just as well.
Some people, I tell ya…
Haha, well I definitely wasn’t one of those. However, I think I was the FIR$T to point out that it was wrong… >:)
and yeah, I just brought the first thing back.
Not sure it’s supposed to be me cause I don’t work at checkout yet. But we had over 1000 copies and at the end of the 2nd day we still have lots left.
It’s not.
We had a guy on swings go to the mildenhall shoppette and get copies for the shop at midnight. Then the next day went to get coffee and there were tons left over!
so, is there gonna be a clan tag for us AFB users?
I can’t remember, is there a size limit to clan tags? if so, how about “RGNPKR”?
I like it! I plan on getting mine tonight after work (STS)….
The clan tags in MW2 were only four characters, but don’t know what they are for Black Ops.
At 60 bucks a pop, his wallet is not going to like that, not at all.
So much for savings at AAFES… that sounds like market price.
I’ll just do what I normally do and wait for the next platform to come out and pick up all this stuff cheap on eBay or Craigslist. Let everyone else work the bugs out.
He should of bet on not having Medal of Honor when it released. Woulda won that for sure with AAFES refusing to sell it…
Not worth the gas to drive to AAFES for me. I preordered and Amazon delivered yesterday. Kids had it open and were playing before I got home from work. LOL
I’m so glad I don’t play video games so I don’t have to worry about this shit. /smug
Aren’t returns wonderful. You bought them all and then “enticed” the customer service rep to take them all back. Bet fulfilled and you aren’t broke.
Everyone who is a fan of AFBlues and Farva etc needs to youtube “reflective insanity in the FOB” funny. Of course as I type this I realize I am never at the fore front of culture so this was probably covered a few days ago…
VD
Yep, time for some “Early Modern Warfare”.
Ha! Love this one!
