This story arc has spawned multiple Member’s Section strips, but they won’t post until they’re relevant in the story. I’ll be sure to let y’all know when that happens.
Hey! That’s my J-3 Cub hanging above the cashier. Fun to fly. It’s taking the place of the actual flying that I’m supposed to be doing, since Marines have to wait almost a year to start flight school.
So I snagged my dad this small RC helicopter for christmas, I can now land it on the ceiling fan, this wide branch on the potted tree, and my forehead. Does that get me credit too? Is anyone from the FAA watching?
hahahaha!
Shaw reminds me of old hobby shop that was in Sumter over near the hospital, deep in dust and kits that ran back to the 50′s, maybe the Hobby Hut?
(I think that about the last time I was in that shop, ducted fans for RC were quite new) More recently, I don’t remember the building still standing. Cole’s though is still probably serving cole slaw on take outs in those white paper “souffle cups”.
Just think of the power in advertising for a place like LHS Hobbies. A commercial depicts an ordinary non-flying airman, enlisted or officer, just doing a job that relates to flying.
“We’ve been waiting for you…”
Now, that person flies RC F-22s! Cross into the “real” blue!
grrrr. got the airhogs heli as a present for xmas. 5 mins of video, or photos. Damn thing would not USB to PC. was looking forward to it. 2 times calling help desk, gave up after 30 mins of commercials.
Ok, I’ll admit it, I am a flight instructor and I have had very poor success with RPA toys… although they are fun.
On the other hand, this last week, I had TWO civilian R/C aces come fly with me on discovery flights, and both of them said that R/C was no preparation for actually trying to fly the plane. Both have their place, but there are significant differences.
It’s a LOT of fun, gets you very close to the full scale stuff, and even allows you to do things that you’d love to do in full scale but can’t as it would be too dangerous/forbidden, like on the 2nd video… I’d say all 3 are complimentary!
Thanks for the extra strip. Have a great weekend!

Again Farva…awesome airplane art!
Barbie is about to become a RPA pilot.
Good stuff…
I had the AWACer comic about being a TV pilot posted when I was stationed at an AFSPC base and I loved the fact that it made Satellite flyer’s mad…
MSR, CUB and Striker in the backround, nice
I’ll nitpick myself – it’s a modified Striker.
One of my microjets has a horizontal stabilizer at the top of the tail feathers like that, which I like, so I added it.
Striker? Looks like an old DeHavillind Vampire with the cockpit shifted to “the centre line” and just missing 1950s-60s RAF roundels.
Kinda dates my eyes and recognition.
I have a RC helicopter. does that mean I am a real chopper pilot also?
(I’ll stick to fixed wing in real life)

Enjoy the weekend.
Not to brag or anything, but this was a 3 day work week for most of us at Shaw AFB. Got to love snow in the south.

You mean the helicopter? That’s actually a Blade 120-SR. However, I did feature an Air Hogs heli several years ago (http://www.afblues.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/005.jpg), so you’re welcome, LOL!

Multiple member’s section strips… too many directions to drift here.
hmmm Can’t wait for the member section strips.

Depends, the 2 can meet, and not only on military UAVs
A little insight about FPV flying:
