So I just spent the past nearly two weeks in Combat Airman Skills Training at Camp Bullis, Texas. These comics, and two of the three new ones in the Member’s Section, are based on my experiences there. The recurring character is based on one of the guys in my tent.
For those who don’t know, a DAGR is a Defense Advanced GPS Receiver, and is pronounced “dagger.” That might clear some things up.
Bonus cool points to whoever can finish the quote from the rollover text without looking. It became a bit of a battle cry while we were there. Don’t worry about watching your language if you know it – just blurt it out.
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again – thank you for your patience while I fulfilled my duties for the Air Force.
Oh, and for the would-be nitpickers, I made these in my tent, and had no feasible way to get a copy of the ACU pattern, so I used the ABU one I already had for the gear. I know it’s wrong.

F*CK SPECIAL FORCES!!!
Camp Bullis, my old friend. Did army medic training there, good times. So hot in the summer we had a guy become a heat casualty sleeping during the day in one of the tin roof shacks. And I will admit, we were massively jealous of that beautiful looking Air Force facility there.
Ranger School will make you tough! SO TOUGH! So tough you’ll shave with a chainsawwww!!!
Wow, it’s strange being this far up…
Welcome back!
You’ll fight tigers!!!
You’ll fight them underwater!
F*CK SPECIAL FORCES!!!
Love that vid, funny as all h*ll.
I read about CAST in the AF times a few months ago, how was it?
I had CAST training in Wyoming…talk about a shit show. Our whole land nav day was on the Oregon Trail. That was pretty cool but the amount of cows out there was HILARIOUS. However, the cows here in Afghanistan right now are a little skinnier than those…bhahahahahahha
FUCK SPECIAL FORCES!
Kinda funny we had the same chant….
Actually, they have ABU helmet covers now. Though really, the Kevlar should have been in the old BDU woodland pattern for max accuracy.
Not at CAST at Bullis. Those who had covers had the ACU, and there were very few of us.
We have ACU helmet covers/vests. I went through CST (Army version that’s twice as long as the AF version and covers all the same stuff…) I guess, to be fair, it did “help” with the transition between working with all AF to working with primarily Army. I will say that working with the Army only reaffirms my decision to join the AF.
Oh! While we were at Ft. Dix (where I had CST) we were issued Army cold weather gear… and were told we aren’t allowed to use any of it, and had to return it prior to leaving… I realize this is the Army we’re dealing with… but really? What a huge waste of time… (Apparently it’s part of the CST contract or something that they’re required to issue it to us…)
i’m in the same boat with the cold weather gear. the really funny part is it doesn’t even snow in this province of Azzcrackistan. Our gear came out of Camp Atterburry in Indiana. PRT is a fun time.
The Marines is the saaaaaaaame way
You have us combat medics pinned to a T. Don’t piss us off, we can kill you or cure you as the whim takes us.
1 Evac Platoon
No muff to tough
No evac to rough.
Based on observation, Navy corpsmen too, particurlarly, despite Terminal Lance thread, attached to Marines.
Semper fi! You mean SEMPER PIE!
Farva, if you just made these comics based on what JUST happened, why are they copyrighted 2010?
Because I forgot to change the year on the strip template.
FUCK SPECIAL FORCES!!!
Good to have you back Farva! I was begining to go through withdraw with no fresh updates to follow Barbies pitiful life.
Yay! You’re back!
The first thing I did when I got to my new job and finally got computer access was get caught up on three weeks of AFBlues I’d missed.
Will the medic be a new, recurring character? ‘Cause I think I’m going to like him…
Will the medic be a new, recurring character? ‘Cause I think I’m going to like him…
I second that might need a secondary story line.
Yeah! Welcome back!!
Sigh… I remember Camp Bullis for CBAT before deployment. As far as the pattern for the armour vest and accesorries, I saw everything from ACU, to ABU (that people purchased themselves) to the ‘old’ tan desert-camies, to good ol’ BDU!
Is this a hint of an upcoming “extended absence?” (keeping OPSEC in mind, of course!)
Absence? Nah. Delays? Possibly.
I’m shocked, shocked … Oh, wrong story.
Glad you’re back. And as an alternative response from my kid, the jarhead combat engineer “So what? We have C-4.”
AWWWW! Such fond memories of Camp Bullis…did that last summer.
That’s hilarious. I just got back from Silver Flag Alpha (Security Forces pre-deployment training) and it was just as bad. Where are you going Farva?
YOU’LL GET A TOMAHAWK! YOU’LL GET TWO TOMAHAWKS!!!!!!!
TLAM-C or TLAM-N? Not that we can confirm or deny the presence of the -N…
I’ll tell y’all when I get there.
Members strip #34 is hilarious. Well Done.
I’ll second that, with the steamer a close second.
Ironic that im reading this as the bus pulls through the camp bullis gate. You’re not still around are ya, farva?
Right now I’m wasting (wasted after a few margaritas in Terminal B) away in the USO at San Antonio’s airport. Hydraulic problems have caused my team lead and me to be delayed a few hours en route to Norfolk…
Safe travels Farva, BTW, the Christmas Coin was choice.
Ah Camp Bullis. I’ve never been there, but I’ve sent many a pitiful souls there to become hardened warriors. Noone every came back that way, but it’s always fun to hear the stories.
Welcome back. Thanks for all the extra comics too.
FARVA i laughed so hard, it was worth the withdrawl pains. If you can do one mocking the upcoming ORI that would be great.
FUCK SPECIAL FORCES!!!
Ah yes, CAST, did my time in Ft. Dix. Didn’t do the “F special forces” thing, but we did have a TSgt who pronounced the period at the end of each sentence as “huah”… I got be fire team lead despite being one of the lowest ranking there, which was pretty interesting.
Did any of the people there recognize you?
Back when I was a TACP attached to the 7th Infantry Division (Light), my usual response to huah was…. WOOF!
Barbie the RC Balloon Pilot! I like!
I hope you enjoyed the weather while you were down here. Friggin crazy weather. I’m here right now at the Sec Fo tech school.
Love your comic, my wife sent me a bunch of your comics in letters while I was in BMT. I caught up with the entire comic shortly after getting into Tech school. Really funny stuff. I of course really enjoyed the Sec Fo themed strips. Keep up the good work and I’m supporting the comic with a membership.
How long will you be in Norfolk?
Just a few days.
Well. I am right over at NSA Norfolk at JFCOM I am at NH-15 in Training Room A. I’d love to buy you lunch before you head out.
Tomorrow’s my last full day here, but I definitely have two more lunches. Shoot me an email and we’ll see what can be arranged.
Sent you my number and email from the contact form.
You can keep Camp Bullis. Every school I have had to go through save NCOA, I had to go back to San Antonio. I will say, the two dog schools were more fun than the rest but 5 years there is enough (first duty station). I was gald when i got to move on.
Never been to Camp Bullis, although I went past the exit on I-10 many a time on my way back and forth from San Antonio and Kerrville. The closest I got to anything similar was Camp Swift near the old Bergstrom Air Plane Patch in Austin…. But I must say I found Hippy Hallow much more to my liking.
