I never thought living in a shipping container would be something I’d enjoy, but after living in a tent that smelled like sweat and urine with 40 other guys for a month, the little containerized living unit I moved into yesterday may as well be a log cabin on some scenic overlook in Alaska.
It still blows my mind that some people complain about this place.

I guess the mouse-over comment lets us our imagination come up with stuff about Willows. It is not the picture I wanted…
Nope just troll a bit.
?
That air conditioner doesn’t hurt either, eh Farva?
Djibouti was the best first deployment anyone could ask for. Do you know if they are still offering MCMAP classes to Air Force members?
How well does the air conditioning work? That would be my first question.
A little too well. It’ll be turned down tonight.
I do enjoy my containerized housing unit; it has made 6 months in Kuwait even more cake than if I were in the barracks. Six charlies for the win.
I get RLBs (relocatable living barracks,) and so far, of the entire time I’ve been here, I’ve only had a roommate for ~1 week of it. Only 3 weeks left!
Willows and underwear should never be used in the same sentence, unless of course there is visual evidence of such…jus sayin’
Straight out of AFI 36-2903: 3.2.6. Undergarments. Undergarments are required; during flight operations they must be cotton or fire retardant material due to added protection. Undergarments made of 100 percent nylon or polyes- ter are not authorized during flight.
I know that’s not saying much, considering that the next Sentence begins with the word “Undershirts,” but does anyone of Leia breaking any other rules?
Farva, it’s worth noting that people complain about life at the Deid. Never mind that most folks are in some sort of hard billet(trailers or dorms), everywhere is air conditioned, there’s two pools on base, along with many of the “standard” amenities that you’d expect to find.
In short, people will complain about anything, anywhere, and will rarely have solid reason to, until you get to be the guy out living in a foxhole. That’s about as deep in the suck as you can get, I think.
@Farva, Keep up the great work, but should we be expecting any animated strips soon like the sketch pad episode a few months back?
I was working on a few when I deployed, but I wasn’t able to bring the machine capable of making them with me. I found out real quick if you want to make quality animations they take far longer than I thought.
Hey you know we are an understanding group, it was just a thought i had. I miss the last one and cannot find it, can you link it for us? I need to become a member too, Im just too cheap for my own good.
I can’t link it at the moment because it’s at home in England. It was taken offline when we moved servers.
Man, when I was at Djibouti I shared a CLU with a Navy dude who had to have the AC on max. He said he couldn’t sleep otherwise. He slept in his sleeping bag under 3 blankets. Guess whose bunk was directly under the AC…yeah, this guy. It was a daily war. I would turn it down when I went to sleep, he would turn it up while I was sleeping. Douche.
We went from a shipping container at Kandahar a week ago to a Tent at “The Deid”, with 30 other guys who can’t figure out what to put the AC / Heat on? Put I’m just glad we are stuck here at “The Deid” then back at Kandahar. We will make it home….Hopefully in 3 weeks!!!!
Oh come on Michael. You know you enjoyed the poo pond. We leave our strykers running when we get to that place, Can’t leave it quick enough.
