Here’s another strip I made for the folks here in Djibouti, but anyone who’s been forced to take “combat showers” will be able to relate. I really can’t complain though, ’cause unlike my last deployment, at least here I have a shower curtain.
That was the nice thing about being on a Jordanian AF base that the USAF took over. The AF didn’t really care how long a shower you took. It’s not like anyone was keeping track. Personally I was just ecstatic to have those shower and latrine trailers.
If you do a “proper” combat shower (made easier if they have the “navy shutoff valve” installed at the shower head; strangely I’ve never seen one in a military environment…) you could still get a good 2.5 minutes of rinse/just let the water run on you time. Though on my deployments, we didn’t have a time limit, just a “turn the water off when you don’t need it” rule.
The thing in this strip that I relate to most is actually the air conditioner in the background. I know some will hate me for this, but I remember being deployed and having an AC unit much too large for the room I was in. It was nice, except that my roommate frequently managed to get the room uncomfortably cold.
Extended showers were the best thing about being a POL troop at Al Udeid. No one dared mention a three minute shower to us, especially after a night of bathing in jet fuel left from a bladder burst.
I’d be the first to admit that I’ve always ignored those three minute limits.
Just noticed the comment about the Navy CPOs as well… of course they will!

Shaheed Mwaffaq Air Base?
Al Jafr – King Faisal AB. Back in 2003.
He can’t take a shower outside, that’d mean his shirt isn’t tucked in…

I love the attention to detail of the background. There’s even the little ‘shelf’ along the wall at eye-level.
reflective belt, Reflective Belt, REFLECTIVE BELT!!!!
Ha! Not in Djibouti! It’s the ONLY thing I like about the Navy.
You’re kidding…FACEPALM
