I’ve never hidden the fact that I hate Mac computers. Not Apple products – I love all my iOS devices, but I hate the computers.
I have the enormous displeasure of having to work on one here in Djibouti, and as much as I bitch about it, everyone around me still swears by their apparent infallibility. I’ve come to the conclusion that all these people can’t be experiencing the same level of suckitude that I am with the shiny silver and black shitbox, and that the computer somehow knows it is owned by the U.S. military and is therefor just trying to live up to its government computer predecessor’s reputation.
By taking a crap all over itself every single chance it gets.

I’ m with you on Mac’s. Seems like colleges have drunk the Apple koolaid and require students to buy the Macs. Instead of paying $500 for a computer that will do everything, you got to shell out close to 3 grand. F*&^ing tree hugging bastards
100% with you! We had them in school and it seemed liked I could just look at them and make them crash! a friend of mine, who swore by them, couldn’t understand. I just opened out standard program, started doing what I normally do… 2 minutes later, restart!

*hugs his shiny Mac* Yeeeesssss my preciouussssss
Machine Always Crashes. If Not, Then Operating System Hangs.
My Mac experience over the last three years has been that they work GREAT – so long as you’re not trying to do anything Apple didn’t intend you to do. Unfortunately, Apple didn’t intend for you to be in the DoD. Macs would do wonders for network security, but many career-field specific software would not be compatable.
umm… MACS are no more secure than PCs… coming from a network security type… they are just as vulnerable
Most definitely not my Mac experience… it takes an act of god to crash my machine. Probably all the unnecessary crap loaded into them by the USAF that’s crashing them on you Farva.
You made the US Air Force an SrA…nice!
Probly should’ve made it a Staff, since they might as well give it to you when you sign the papers anyway.
Allow me to put it this way: at work, I use a Mac to process shipments of replacement Mac parts, and I will never consider buying a Mac.
Hot damn Farva, are you sure you’re not Comm? The only thing that could improve this comic is if it said “PC” instead of “Mac”, I haven’t had the pleasure of working with an AF Mac yet and after realizing the AF would just eff it up like they have with all the other computers, I can’t say I’d be too excited to.
This is awesome though, it’s going up on my desk. Thanks for the laugh today!
I have a MacBook Pro at home, but a PC at work. The “PC” is a cheap POS and the MacBook Pro is a “Gift” from my son who replaced his with the latest and greatest. It would cost three times what the PC cost.
I do like the mouse Pad and its gestures. Its screen is way higher res than the PC Laptop at work.
Both crap out. Macs at work fail as often as the PCs. But for the price (gift) I can’t complain about my MacBook Pro.
Odd, but this argument can be extended well past computers. It seems everything my unit gets it’s hands on has this reaction, to include new airmen.
Your unit’s airmen crap their pants when you look at them? O_o You must work in a BMT squadron, or possibly be a First Sergeant. lol!
I can’t stand Mac’s, I tried to work with my s-i-l’s for about five minutes before I gave up and copied the files I needed over to my PC so I could edit it without developing a migraine.
I have never had a computer crash on me as much as Apples do. I like to over clock and upgrade my systems and you just can’t do that with a mac. I’ve also bailed on the iPhone because iTunes fried 5 hard drives on 3 separate computers! I won’t defend MS’ mistakes but Apple is by no means a viable alternative. I can at least fix MS system when I have a problem.
Windows runs better on a Mac. Just sayin’.
You do know it is the same hardware right Justin? Well, except for some magic fairy dust.
I love my MacBook Air… as long as it’s running Windows 7.
I am a comm guy. It seems like the military is seriously over paying for crappy computers. Oh wait I think that goes for everything the military buys. If the military wants to save money lets upgrade to better and CHEAPER computers instead of these way over paid shitty computers. Being a comm guy I see how bad these computers suck every day of the week.
I have a Macbook Pro and a Dell at home. I love my Mac, never once had an issue with it. I even use bootcamp to run Windows 7 at times… The Dell is used as an expensive paperweight when I open my office window
I’m a computer Tech on the E-3. The 1970′s era computer on the AWACS is more reliable than these PsOS they have us working on in our offices. I own a MacBook. I Have owned many PCs over the years and EVERY ONE of them has either completely crashed irrecoverably or had constant AutoDumps and Blue Screens. As for the AF using Mac deskstops… We are still MS users over here, for better or worse… usually worse.
I hated those computer systems we sent out with AWACS when I was stationed at Tinker. Those systems were always broken and it was a pain in the ass just trying to fix it, and when you do fix it something else is broken
That’s ’cause they let people like me operate the scopes.
Personally I don’t think it is the MAC or the PC that is the problem, as my PC at home runs great and I know people who have MACs that run great. What the problem is, is that when the AF gets a computer from the manufacturer, they rewrite the hard drive and put SDC (Standardized Desktop Configuration) 2.0 on the system….THAT is when it goes to hell in a hand basket. (BTW yes, I know I’m a loader but I spent two years as an Functional System Administrator overseeing the MXG’s Computer System Administrators and learned a lot about the AF’s inability to use computers
)
It seems like teh same drivers are loaded on every machine too. It doesn’t matter if it is a Dell, HP, or any other POS. It would be nice if they bought everything separately and built the PCs.
Should’ve made him disappear after he was touched…seems like that’s what happens around here anyway. Just don’t ask how many items I may need to ROS!
I’m a Comm guy by trade and I have no love for Apple. Seems like they lack the testicular fortitude to be able to get anything done on the net. My hope is that someone with finally make the decision to stop buying those shiny turds and go with a platfrom that can be useful rather than a larger paper weight that most Apple PC’s end up becoming.
My advice is to make friends with one of the NCO’s in your Comm shop and see what he can do to get you an upgrade.
I was about to buy a Mac, thankfully I read this because all I heard were good things, but for twice the price and just as many problems, I’m glad I didnt. Plus on the OS side of computers, Linux? lol
Just Remember…Everything Military is made by the LOWEST BIDDER!
Part of the problem with AF PCs is all the crap that is loaded on the systems. Take a look at all the crap running in the background. You’d have just as many problems at home if you only had 1 to 2GB of RAM and that much stuff running.
You think your Mac can handle anything?
Let’s see how it handles AF SDC!
You know what’s really great? That bar at the top of your computer (normally green bar that says unclassified), that alone used to flat out cut the computer’s speed in half.
Still I’m more concerned about the network than any one computer. We have two problems with our network, one has crippled a large section of my squadron for the past five years, and the other will practically shut down my squadron when ever it happens (which is normally every two to three months).
Well at least the network and computers are secure, because if we can’t use ‘em the bad guys sure as hell can’t either!
You do realise that computers know when you hate them? Of course they hate you back! My only beef with Macs is that they’re overpriced, but that’s true of all Apple products.
Perhaps I should say that am a Mac user myself. I’m more of an OS/X fan though; the hardware not so much.
As a CrappleCare advisor (iCrap, though), I can wholeheartedly sympathize. I never liked Macs before for various reasons and certainly never liked Crapple before but since I started working here, my distaste intensified. The last OS upgrade is laughable (resizing windows from every angle? Wow, Windows let me do that ever since I started using it 19 or so years ago… Full-screen mode? Wow, same here… STUPID AUTOCORRECT IN EVERY STUPID APP? ARGH!) and there are a lot of Windows computer who can do the exact same thing as Macs but are immensely cheaper. I really do feel your pain.
And I loved my ASS of at that comic. I think I need to print it out and hang it in my cubicle
What do you get when you cross a Mac and an ex-wife?
A computer that never “goes down.”
……So to speak…..
I’ll agree that limited RAM is a big issue with AF computers, but then most of the stuff running wouldn’t be needed except for those five or six dbags who get caught every year doing porn on the gov computer or installing thier own drives etc. At home I have a Dell (have used them exclusivly for home since ’95) and I have had very few problems. I chalk it up to two reasons, a very robust kick butt power surge APC and I leave them on 24/7 unless a big thunderstorm is nearby or I’m leaving on vacation.
I also believe most of the work PC/Mac problems may be related to less than robust modern base network problems. Call me crazy
Haven’t use a Mac since college and it was an Apple 2.
Cheers

linux for the win! all our linux machines never have issues with crashing (including mine at home)… our windows machines crap out and blue screen ssssssssssooooooo much however :S Did I mention linux runs on about any hardware type and is much lighter?
Listen i dont hate apple products out of ignorance, I have reasoning behind my seething hatred. First of had a make when i was about 7 so it abused me early on, then came ipod which i had 2which both broke a week after the warranty died. I had a commander who had an iphone and me being geek got to fix it anytime he broke it(which was frequent). Basically i build my own pc’s, i own 2 zune’s and i love my droid. I wont touch anything apple with a ten foot pole.

Damn auto spell correcting make should be mac
