This comic, while not really funny by itself, takes on a whole new life when you understand this is me, on the phone yesterday, and is 100% real.
Look, no one has ever accused me of being the brightest crayon in the box, and I am on the highest dosage of ADHD meds the military will allow. That’s not a joke, for all you folks who have an off day and like to say “Oh, it must be my ADD.” I’ve got the documentation, and you piss me off.
Anyway, yeah, by total chance yesterday (a good friend asking why my records said 2013 when we were (supposedly) leaving in 2012) I found out that we’re actually on an extended long tour – which is exactly what we wanted/volunteered for – as opposed to a regular long tour, and our time in England is not nearly over as we previously thought. This also means that the jobs I applied for were jobs I was ineligible for, and I never got my DEROS extension/IPCOT paperwork because it wasn’t my time.
This is, in short, some of the best news we’ve received the entire time we’ve been here, because we freaking love this place.
Yeah, you’d think this is the kind of thing an NCO with 10+ years in would just know, but then if you think that about me, you don’t really know me.
-Farva the dumbass

Another reason why I prefer to stay in the ANG and not go active…. the pure fact that I don’t know what DEROS is, and have no desire to what-so-ever.
I’m in the same boat as you buddy
Date Of Expected Return from Overseas Service IIRC. I sorta did it twice, but only really once, since I did two consecutive overseas assignments (but the first was Hawaii which only sorta counts).
Date Eligible to Return from OverSeas
I extended twice in the Philippines. Think of all the paperwork you saved. Make sure your weight allowance going home is correct for your tour length. Just sayin’
So basically you were looking up something importan….. ohhh, Shiny!
lol
Now THAT’S hysterical!!!
Same thing happened to me. i thought i came to Italy on a two year cause it said 24 months in one block but when i looked farther down on the orders a few months later i saw 36 months!! although i am not in the same boat as you about F*&king lovign this place!! area is nice but base could be alot better
thats what you get for thinking
That was the REMFS were forread all the fine print then tell all us shooters the important parts.
And raise it up to 3rd grade English so everyone else can understand what you’re saying?
Same kinda thing happened to my wife and I at Aviano a few years ago….but hey where are some good places to live, we’ll be at the ‘heath after my Kunsan tour is done in June
Well at least you were considerate when you made the call. And I’m glad you get to stay where you want to be.
It always pays to be polite or at least apologize when your not. Some one once apologized for being, and I quote, “A flaming jackass” after he cussed me out over the phone before I gave him a simple fix to his problem.
Ha! Well done, sir, well done. I think we all have supreme brain farts of that nature at least once or twice in our life. Glad to hear that this was a good news brain fart, though.
Also glad to hear I am not the only one pissed by everyone and their brother’s cousin claiming they have ADD.
Still though, great news for you guys. I’m happy for ya. Where were you wanting to go to anyways that you were *ahem* turned down for?
Congrats on your discovery! We managed to extend our 3 years in the UK to 4. They had to basically shut down our organization to get the Americans to leave. Just think, an extra year to sample even more British ales! Enjoy! It will fly by too fast.
Sooooooooo you are saying you don’t know ever AF reg by heart. Shock I say shock how some.. aw who gives a frack you know know
enjoy your stay.
Everyone starts somewhere we aren’t born with all the knowledge in the world. This is why it’s called learning.
Oh… my… gwarsh, Staff Sergeant. You just SO screwed up! You’ve been in long enough to know not to breech COMSEC/OPSEC as you’ve just done! Because not only have you probably been giving voice to this fatal breech of security, you WROTE IT AND PUT IT ON THE FRIGGIN’ INTERNET!!! What did you do, you ask? You wrote:
“This is, in short, some of the best news we’ve received the entire time we’ve been here, because we freaking love this place.”
If this comment reaches up into the bowels of higher command, you can expect orders to Minot!! We can’t have Airmen being so friggin happy! It could lead to the downfall of the Modern USAF as we know it today!! (If this happens in the Army, the poor, hapless Soldier finds immediate PCS orders for Fort Leonard Wood in his box the VERY NEXT DAY! So all you G.I.s at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii better keep your pie holes shut if you know what’s good for ya!!)
Postscript: I’m so freakin’ jealous of your assignment.
I volunteered for Fort lost in the woods, misery, only to be sent to fayietnam. Damn.
As long as the 25th ID can continue to advertise that Schofield Barracks is a 3rd rate post in a 3rd world country, they’ll get away with it.
BTW, that exact term was used in the Army Times in the mid-late 80s about it. Massive money infusions for infrastructure soon followed.
Been there myself and done that. I had volunteered for a special duty left and right and couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t selected after I saw the advert posted again after the close out. Found out I was still listed as in cross-training status from when I tried to cross train 4 years prior. The status had never been closed out, which made me ineligible for everything. Finally got it fixed and ended up with a special duty I thought would be great…but ended in a nightmare. Enjoy the confusion….life isn’t always greener on the other side. Things happen for a reason…know that now as I moved on. Love your work!!
You know I gave 8 years of my life devoted to the service of our great nation, 2 of which were spent in the blue, and before that 14 years as a AF brat. I honestly believe that the Air Force has the most acronyms than all of the government combined. You lost me on this one.
I can SOOOOOO relate to you on the ADHD part!!!!!!!!
