Welcome to the Rock! We’ve just finished up the first year of a 2 year tour. Base and local area is OK, especially if you like being surrounded by a lot of Americans. Get out to some of the other areas of the island (heck it’s only 10 miles by 20 miles approx) and indulge yourself in the culture. Holler if you need anything.

No, that was the stupid system we have here. I was trying to get Friday’s comic posted so I wouldn’t have to worry about it at Lajes but it just kept screwing up.
I started thinking that when I saw the strip disappear too. It had me thinking WTH is going on when I saw the Friday post and a new strip. Then the text about Friday portion went away. At that point I was thinking you were posting an unannounced bonus strip.

Lajes Field, Portugal, 1978 for a month and a half TDY. Yep it was kinda fun.
Steak dinner for a buck and a half back then.
Did my time there a decade ago. There are some good restaraunts in Praia back then. Enjoy the landing though. They can be fun in winter.
I just missed a TDY there when I was stationed at Ramstein a year back. It would have been fun. Oh well though…

I was stationed at Lajes in the early 90s. Was pretty cool back then. Only NCO club I was ever a member of in my 20+ years.
